Minnesota Rural Electric Association Government Affairs 

Minnesota electric cooperatives have always viewed political involvement as crucial. When it became clear that existing utilities had no interest in extending the electrical grid to the countryside, we partnered with federal and state governments and local communities to bring light and power to rural parts of Minnesota. Over the years, that partnership has helped us provide safe and reliable energy to areas of the state once thought too expensive to serve.

We continue to remain involved now. Through our grassroots efforts and constant presence in St. Paul and Washington, we strive to be proactive, building relationships with legislators and policymakers and educating them about who we are, how we are different from other types of utilities and the critical role electric cooperatives play in the state’s economy.

The goal is to influence legislative and regulatory outcomes in ways that ultimately benefit our members and the communities we serve. It takes all of us, so let’s all stay involved.
